Penumbral Lunar Eclipse

The penumbral lunar eclipse was supposed to happen at 20:36 (UTC+8) on 9 Feb, 2009.

I set up everything on the roof. Of course, snacks and orange juice were prepared (hee~~) because it would last for a few hours.

It was not easy to be observed by bare eyes.
I kept waiting and looking for the difference...

20:20 (UTC+8): The moon was a little yellowish. The penumbral lunar eclipse had not started.

21:00 (UTC+8): Penumbral lunar eclipse started for 24min, but no difference for our bare eyes.

21:30 (UTC+8): A dark corner appeared at the bottom left. Wow!!! It was exciting.

22:00 (UTC+8): The dark corner becomes darker. It could be observed by bare eyes.

22:38 (UTC+8): The darkest shadow appeared.

22:49 (UTC+8): The biggest moon since 52 years ago.

It was an exciting experience because we do not have many chances to see the penumbral lunar eclipse.

All the photos are shot with the following settings:

  • ISO: 100 (because the moon was bright enough)
  • Aperture: F8
  • Shutter speed: 1/125s
Hope you also enjoy taking photos for the Moon!
